Coach Info

San Francisco Bay is an undisputed mecca for sailboat racing, and many world championships and Olympic medals have been won by athletes who’ve learned to race on The Bay. International’s sailing team practices twice a week at St. Francis Yacht club as part of a High School racing program that includes several other high schools in San Francisco. Sailors experience physical challenge, personal improvement and the benefits of being part of a team. Some compete at a national level and many are recruited to race on college sailing teams.
All boat equipment and facilities are supplied by the club, along with professional youth coaching staff.
All racing is conducted under the PCISA (Pacific Coast Interscholastic Sailing Association) in the NorCal League. The PCISA includes over 50 active teams, with teams being comprised of 2-10 sailors each. The Varsity team typically competes in six Fall regattas and four-five Winter/Spring regattas. Try-outs occur at the beginning of the school year to qualify for Varsity or Junior Varsity. Sailors trying out need to have some basic recreational or racing experience.
If you are interested in trying out for the team but need some basic sailing experience, there are many resources available:
Learn to Sail StFYC
Berkeley Sailing camps
Encinal Yacht club, Alameda
Interesting options thru Stanford for high school kids - Powerboat handling and Match racing camps as well as some beginner/intermediate camps.
Monthly regattas thru Bay Area Youth Sailing, all classes of boats.

May afterschool classes at StFYC
Summer sailing! The coaches want you on the water developing skills as much as possible.
Coaches are very excited about a High School Boot Camp they are offering in August at Tinsley Island in the Delta. It is a great opportunity to do a ton of sailing, get intensive instruction and skill development (especially if you are wanting more experience as skipper or crew) and fine tune your skills to be ready for fall sailing.
There are 420 classes at Stfyc - talk to Adam if you are interested.
