Melinda Bihn, Head of School

Head of School Melinda Bihn returned to her home state of California to lead French American and International in 2014. She has worked in both international schools in Europe and independent schools in the United States, and speaks French and German. Melinda has a B.A. in English with a minor in French, a master's in comparative literature, a master's in the teaching and administration of English as a second language, and a doctorate in educational leadership. Her doctoral dissertation at the University of Pennsylvania focused on international students in independent schools. Melinda serves on the Board of Directors of the California Association of Independent Schools and is a 2019 Fellow at the Klingenstein Center for Independent School Leadership of Teachers College, Columbia University. 

Melinda and her husband, Bill Wallace, are the proud parents of Sam and Rebecca (International High School 2017).

Cécile Kombrza, Maternelle Principal

Cécile received her teaching certificate from the Académie de Montpellier (under the auspices of the French Ministry of Education) in 2005. She went on to teach in France at various levels, and worked with handicapped students before coming to the United States in 2009 to work at the Awty International School in Houston, Texas. Being immersed simultaneously in French and American culture in a multilingual environment allowed Cécile to bring an international perspective to her career. She then taught in a french international school in New York where she became the elementary school coordinator for both French and English programs, allowing her to develop new skills in the administrative side of the school. Cécile joined French American in 2018, as the Maternelle Principal. She aims to put students in control of their own learning while motivating their critical thinking, intellectual exploration, and creativity. She believes firmly in the benefits of interculturalism and collaboration with students, teachers, and families.

Marie-Pierre Carlotti, Lower School Principal

Marie-Pierre Carlotti has taught Kindergarten and elementary school courses in France and the US since 1982. She holds a degree in Modern Literature from the University François Rabelais in Tours, France, and French and California teaching credentials. She has held several positions at the French American International School, including Lower School Vice Principal for the five years prior to becoming Principal. Marie-Pierre's goal is to create an equitable, challenging, and joyful learning environment where every student achieves his or her potential, and can achieve it with others because every child has a strong desire to include others

Fabrice Urrizalqui, Middle School Principal & Representative for French Affairs

Fabrice Urrizalqui joined the French American International School in 2004, initially as a Lower School teacher, after working in France and Colombia. He holds a Master’s Degree in Political Science from Sciences Po Paris. In addition to teaching, he has held different positions in the school, including Service Learning Coordinator and Curriculum Coordinator for the upper elementary. Fabrice believes in interdisciplinary projects and collaboration and is passionate about our mission of critical thinking and international citizenship. 

Joel Cohen, High School Principal

Joel Cohen has taught high school physics and chemistry in French and in English for both the IB and the French Baccalaureate since 1988. He joined International High School in 1999 where in addition to being a teacher, he has held the positions of Head of Sciences and Assistant Principal. Joel recently obtained his Master's degree in Education, 20 years after graduating in the Sciences from the University of Compiegne, France. He is passionate about pedagogy and innovative approaches to learning and has presented on those topics at international conferences on education. Joel is an accomplished Blues guitarist who performs regularly in the Bay Area and an enthusiastic world traveler.

​ Aaron Levine, Chief Financial Officer & Director of Operations

Aaron Levine joined French American in 2004, after eight years at Sun Microsystems and three years at Coopers & Lybrand. His professional background and experience include financial analysis, budgeting, strategic planning, change process management, human resource and financial planning responsibilities. While at Coopers, Levine performed significant financial audit, accounting, business development and consulting duties. He has traveled professionally in the Asia-Pacific region for Sun and spent a year at Edinburgh University in Scotland. Levine holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Pennsylvania and a master's degree in Management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.) Sloan School of Management.

Andrew Brown, Dean of Admission

"Only once in the world, and of all things: over 20 years at the French American International School!" Andrew Brown has been an IB biology teacher, IB Coordinator, International High School Principal, WASC/CAIS/CIS Accreditation Coordinator, and PK3-8 Admission Director. He is an IB examiner and teaches IB Environmental Systems and Societies and Theory of Knowledge. Andrew originally trained in the UK as a zoologist. Along the way he acquired post-graduate credentials in philosophy and education. He previously taught in the UK, Spain and Brazil. He is a bold figurative artist, timid mountain biker and proud father of three trilingual teenagers.

Kandi Craddock, Director of Human Resources

Kandi Craddock brings a range of experience as a Human Resources Professional. As a true HR Generalist, Kandi has worked in a variety of industries including healthcare, finance, hospitality, technology and now, education. Her main areas of competency and deep knowledge are in employee engagement, mentoring, compliance, benefits administration, talent development and other important areas. Kandi earned a bachelor’s degree in Social Welfare and Legal Studies from the University of California, Berkley and a master’s degree in Human Resources Management from Golden Gate University.

Stephen Dini, Director of Advancement

Stephen Dini came to French American and International from the University of San Francisco, where he was Director of Parent Relations in the Office of Development. Steve brings 12 years of advancement experience in higher education and independent schools, having served as Director of External Advancement, Director of Alumni Relations and Annual Fund, and Regional Development Officer. He holds a bachelor's degree from California State University, Chico and spends his spare time keeping up with his amazingly vivacious  twin daughters, Anne and Louisa, class of '32.

Darryl Johnson, Director of Diversity and Inclusion

Darryl Johnson comes to us from the United Nations Education Science and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), bringing to bear seven years of experience as a seasoned diversity practitioner, international educational development professional, and educator. A graduate of Middlebury College and the University of Pennsylvania, her personal and professional interests include: Women and Gender in Education, Queer & Critical Race Theory, Human Rights and Global Citizenship Education, as well as Teacher Excellence and Curriculum Development. Darryl has also worked and consulted with several New England independent schools, most recently Choate Rosemary Hall. She is a dedicated scholar-activist, writer, and polyglot.

Keelee Wrenn, Director of Marketing and Communication

Keelee Wrenn brings nearly 10 years of nonprofit marketing and communications experience to French American and International, developing branding, marketing, and communication strategies to enhance the impact of the mission-focused work of several organizations. Most recently, she served as the Director of Development and Communication for the Berkeley Humane Society. Keelee holds a bachelor's degree in Marketing and Finance from Seton Hall University and a master's degree in Business Administration from the University of Tampa

An independent Pre-K through 12th grade co-educational day school in the heart of San Francisco. The school delivers a rigorous bilingual (French/English) immersion program through middle school, culminating in either French Baccalaureate or International Baccalaureate program in its International High School.
