Peer Education Workshops and Peer Counseling

Supervised by the high school counselor, Peer Counselors are Grade 12 students who have undergone one year’s worth of peer education training necessary to mentor their peers.  Among other duties, Peer Counselors work with our incoming 9th grade and new students in order to facilitate  the students’ transition to high school.

Monthly lunch time peer educational workshops are open to all high school students. Students training to become Peer Counselors are required to attend these educational workshops. Examples of peer educational workshops include: Sexual Harassment, Suicide Prevention, Alcoholics Anonymous, Marijuana Anonymous, Fruition Health (Healthy Eating), Stress Management, LGBT Center, Bystander Intervention, and Planned Parenthood, and Healthy Dating.
Peer Counselors also mentor interested Middle School students throughout the school year.  There is a yearly luncheon for middle school students interested in working with a Peer Mentor.

Confidentiality

School counseling services are confidential, with the exception of requirements regulated by law pertaining to child safety and protection.

Students are welcome to either drop by the counseling office (room 589), or contact the upper school counselor via phone or e-mail for an appointment.
