The French American International School is seeking an ethical, effective leader who communicates high standards and expectations to serve as Director of Advancement. The Director of Advancement will possess knowledge of the principles of advancement, development and philanthropy, along with a clear understanding of community leadership dynamics and volunteer development to his/her successful fulfillment of this exciting leadership position.
The Director of Advancement is the lead coordinator in all aspects of fundraising. A member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Director is responsible for all aspects of advancement and development including creation and implementation of short and long-term fundraising initiatives and community engagement of current and past families, alumni, grandparents, and corporate and foundation partners.
Reports to: Head of School
Areas of Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership to advancement department, setting the vision and priorities in line with the School’s strategic goals;
- Serve as a collaborative member of the School’s leadership team, supporting the Head of School and fellow administrators in carrying out the school’s mission and strategic plan;
- Develop long-range fundraising initiatives rooted in a strategic plan, in partnership with the Head of School, Advancement Committee and Board of Trustees. Provide fundraising reports and updates on other strategic plan initiatives to the Board of Trustees on monthly basis; and
- Serve as staff liaison to the Board, the Advancement Committee and the Governance Committee.
Relationship Development / External Relations
- Nurture productive relationships with all constituencies of the school, including trustees, current and potential donors, parents, grandparents, alumni parents, alumni, faculty/staff and students;
- Actively participate in professional, community and civic affairs as a representative of the School;
- Attend all major school functions designed to include donors, prospects and volunteers, including the appropriate recognition of donors, volunteers and Trustees;
- Convey a positive image of the school at all times when working with students, parents, alumni, grandparents, employees and the public; and
- Foster a culture of giving and engagement within the school community.
Development and Stewardship
- Conceptualize, develop and execute strategies and plans for a comprehensive development program that includes annual fund, major gifts, annual events, capital campaign (when appropriate), endowment, grants, alumni and grandparent relations and other strategic programs;
- Conduct and oversee donor research to identify, evaluate, cultivate and appropriately solicit and steward prospects; and
- Plan and implement campaign strategies tailored to specific and diverse constituencies that retain and grow donor portfolio, increasing annual revenue from existing donors and securing new revenue from prospective donors.
- Develop and manage the annual fundraising budget and work plan; track and report results to the Head of School and the Board;
- Ensure donor management systems are implemented and utilized and donor cultivation strategies are fully supported through appropriate technology;
- Ensure integrity and accuracy of the donor database, the information, and the prompt, accurate acknowledgement and recognition of donor contributions; and
- Oversee development of gift processing policies, systems and procedures built on ethical standards for soliciting and reporting.
- Mentor, train and support team of high-aptitude Advancement staff;
- Set the vision for Advancement team, including clear objectives and goals, and defined strategies to achieve them. Motivate team to meet department goals and celebrate milestones achieved; and
- Maintain a strong team espirit de corps and healthy working environment within the department in order to build positive morale and increase staff retention.
Qualifications & Experience:
- A minimum of five years school advancement and development experience, or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Experience in multi-channel development including annual fund, major donors, and events.
- Experience with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge.
- Experience leading a capital campaign, preferably in an independent school setting, is highly desired.
- A Bachelor’s degree is required.

Seeking an experienced, dynamic music teacher to helm our upper school music program. Music is an integral part of our school culture and community, and is a centerpiece of our highly collaborative, acclaimed arts program. The position includes working with and/or teaching classes in 9-12th grade, including music in the International Baccalaureate diploma program in 11th and 12th grade. The Learning Specialist supports students encountering academic difficulties by working with students, teachers and families to devise and coordinate plans for accommodations, strategies and remediation using school and outside resources.
The Learning Specialist collaborates closely with the Student Support Services Department, classroom teachers, the counselor, the administrators and the parents.
- Consult with teachers and parents to: interpret and report screenings/evaluation results, make recommendations for further outside evaluation or support, ensure adhesion to mandated accommodations, recommend additional strategies for the classroom or at home, and provide specific referrals, as needed; possible coordination and facilitation of Student Support meetings
- Support teaching staff by offering resources, assistance, advice, and training to enable Faculty to better meet the needs of all learners
- Work with students with academic difficulties on remediation and/or educational therapy
- Work with students especially in study skills, organization, self-advocacy and writing
- Administer initial psycho-educational screening of students referred by teachers or parents for academic concerns
- Liaison between parents and outside support services
- Manage all accommodation needs for standardized tests, notably ERBs and SSATs
